How to Stop Drinking Alcohol by Yourself

What is the best way to quit drinking by yourself?  Some people are seeking the answer to this question because they do not like AA or 12 step programs for various reasons.  They may suffer from social anxiety, or they may have tried the program and it simply did not work for them.  But many alcoholics struggle with this and do not want to ask for help when it comes to quitting drinking.

If this is the case then it is a tougher road to follow then if the person is willing to ask for help.  Of course, it can still be done if the person has a lot of conviction and is willing to take a lot of action.  For example, if they just think that they can sit at home and not change anything major in their life and expect to be free from alcohol then they are mistaken.  It takes a great deal of effort and some major lifestyle changes in order to permanently stop drinking alcohol.  But it can be done if the person is willing to put in the work.

One of the best ways to stop drinking on your own is to use a holistic approach in which you try to improve your life in several different areas.  This can be done by addressing the following areas and more in your life when you get sober:

alcohol1) Physical - working out, exercising on a regular basis, and so on.

2) Emotional - seeking emotional balance, avoiding stressful situations and people.

3) Nutrition and health - putting your health first, eating better food, and taking care of yourself as a main priority.  Many alcoholics end up relapsing due to health complications, so this is much more important than most people realize.

4) Socially - eliminating old drinking friends that are no good for you, finding healthy people to network with in recovery.

Following these avenues of growth can lead to success in recovery, even when you are not technically "working a program."  Holistic growth is a program of recovery.
